RAIGAD: Rescue operations at the Tarique Garden building collapse site in Raigad district’s Mahad town were called off at around 11.45am on Wednesday, two and a half hours after the body of a 63-year-old woman was extricated from the debris.
With this, the death toll in the incident rose to 16, while two people were rescued. The search and rescue operation lasted for over 41 hours.
In a report submitted to the state government, the Raigad district administration put the number of injured people at nine.
The Mahad Municipal Council has arranged Ambedkar Smarak to provide shelter to the people living in the five-storey building.
The police had on Tuesday registered an offence against five people, including the builder and architect of Tareq Garden in connection with the incident. A manhunt has been launched to nab the accused.
